Wise Traditions Conference in SLC
On October 17-19th in Salt Lake City, a Wise Traditions Conference, part of the Weston A. Price Foundation, took place. Being awarded a scholarship from Arroyo Seco Live was a great blessing, as I was able to attend as a KNCE reporter for my show, Ancestral Food Alchemy Radio Hour. Arroyo Seco Live is a non-profit organization in Taos, NM that supports local educational and cultural representations concerning Northern New Mexico. You can find more about them at www.secolive.org
The Wise Traditions Conference was attended by 1200 listeners, speakers, exhibitors, and like-minded people who all share the passion for real food and are seeking truth within the medical system. The three days of talks were so dense and inspiring, there was barely time to sit down, especially as I attended with my 2-year-old daughter, who gained development milestones on her own.
“Weston A Price Foundation was founded in 1999 to disseminate the research of nutritionist pioneer Weston A. Price, DDS, whose studies of isolated non-industrialized peoples established the parameters of human health and determined the optimum characteristics of human diets. Dr. Price’s research demonstrated that men and women achieve perfect physical form and health, generation after generation, only when they consume nutrient-dense whole foods and the vital fat-soluble activators found exclusively in animal fats. “
As someone who practices ancestral diet and ancestral ways of food and lifestyle, this place was enormous food for my brain to gain more knowledge and get full confidence in what I am doing. So rich, that after the conference, I knew the AFA Radio Hour had to become a podcast, and these conversations have to be available for people outside the airtime. Human potential is enormous, and it can be achieved by everyone. The modern-day food system and medical system are corrupt, and their only interest is profit. Real food is seasonal, local, and simple. Eating ancestrally requires dietary changes, but there are incredible health benefits once we step outside of the comfort zone of processed foods, and good health is just one of them.
Attending this conference with my 2-year-old daughter was a gift, because there were other babies and toddlers, of course, there were some challenges, but the Family Room within the conference solved most of them. Being together and involving children is as ancestral as it gets, only in this modern society, mothers are trained to believe that giving their children up and away for someone else to raise them is education and socialization, but in reality, that goes against any Mothers instinct, and industrialization has made us believe that it is necessary. To experience places where children are welcomed and looked at as equals builds a world with confident and regulated individuals.
Being at this conference built my personal confidence to bring these conversations to a wider public than just my local radio. Everyone who attended, starting from speakers to volunteers, had one thing in common, and it is that a health issue, either with themselves or in their family, had made them seek alternative routes and question the medical system, and I am no different. As someone who was raised to believe that the medical system is built to heal people, I had my awakening when it failed me. Returning to my ancestral diet and looking into food systems of the industrialized world started my healing journey, and it is a lifelong journey. Ancestral path is an everyday task, and the beauty of it is so rewarding. Local and Seasonal is the new Organic.
I am beyond grateful to Arroyo Seco Live Price Valentine and all the board members for awarding me, trusting my vision, and believing in my work. Receiving this type of support as a mother and small business owner is an enormous help to keep going and following my dreams. My mission has never before been more clear to me -to weave the ancestral practices together with the lifestyle and modern times we reside in, so the Podcast Ancestral Food Alchemy Radio Hour is born, a place where we seek truth by having conversations with different ancestral lifestyle practitioners in the field of food, water, plants, skin care, wellness and ancestral ways of living.
